Rumores circulan de que Google estaría por dejar de lado el tan popular y útil PageRank en favor de otro algoritmo (llamado Orion) desarrollado por un estudiante australiano, Ori Allon.

Rumor has it that Google may be getting rid of the elusive, but very important PageRank — that friendly green status bar on the Google Toolbar that website owners try to build up. PageRank is what made Google’s search results as good as they are — it is one of the many factors that help the search engine determine how to rank results.

"HIGH-ROI vs. LOW-ROI INTERNET MARKETING

MarketingSherpa has released the results of a survey of 3,186 Internet marketers, who were asked about their ROI from various marketing techniques…

Highest scoring was house email marketing, with 4 times as many respondents saying that they got strong or good ROI than people who said that it was a low-value tactic or hard to gauge.

Lowest scoring Internet tactic was banner advertising, with 3 as many people saying "low" (or "hard to gauge") vs. respondents who said "good" (or "strong").

Email is about 12 times higher rated than banner advertising for ROI. Allocate your budget accordingly: unless you spend many times more on your newsletters then on online advertising, you probably have ROI problems.

These numbers don’t surprise me, because our empirical observations of users’ actual behavior show strong positive effects of email newsletters and extremely strong banner blindness.

Still, it’s nice to see marketing managers come to the same conclusions as the user research, regarding what works on the Internet."

Buenas razones para escribir en XHTML y CSS al momento de armar un sitio web.

2. You don’t have to spend extra thought and time deciding on styling the mark up of your document (upper- or lowercase, quotes or no quotes on attributes)
3. You don’t need to spend extra thought on which tags should be closed and which can (or should) be left open

5. You can save in bandwidth costs and visitors will see them faster by making slimmer pages
6. It’s going to be easier for you to switch to XHTML 2.0 which will give you more semantic tools

8. When the coding is faster you can spend more time on thinking about the user experience

Excelente tutorial de cómo borrar la marca de agua (watermark) de una foto. Por supuesto que esto sólo se debería utilizar con fines "educativos", ya que quitarle la marca de agua a una imagen, no es lo que el autor o dueño de la imagen tenía en mente cuando se la puso.

POSH es el nuevo acrónimo que significa Plain-Old-Semantic-HTML.

"We need a simple short mnemonic term that captures the essence of the concept, and is easily verbed (to posh, poshify, poshed up)."

POSH engloba las mejores prácticas del uso de HTML semántico para desarrollar sitios web.

"Semantic HTML is the subset of HTML 4.01 (or XHTML 1.0) elements and attributes that are semantic rather than presentational."

Según los autores de este concepto, la mejor manera de entender POSH, es aplicándolo en proyectos o ejemplos de sitios que uno esté desarrollando. Para este fin se creó una lista de pasos a seguir: POSH Checklist.
